Barbara Adler, ABCDT, CTDH is a professionally Certified Dog Trainer, Therapy Dog Handler and the founder/pack leader of Raising K9. Barbara has been an animal lover her entire life. She has rescued, saved and trained various animals including dogs, cats, birds and turtles. She has been training dogs for a combined total of 28 years. She has trained dogs for law enforcement in the areas of obedience, substance detection/nose work, search and rescue and has trained & competed with them in various canine sports including agility, obedience trials, field trials and dock diving. With majors in education, psychology and communication arts, Barbara began a career in advertising. All the while she stayed heavily involved in dog training and became a Certified Therapy Dog Handler. Her work training and rehabilitating dogs was so rewarding, she decided to focus on her passion for animals full time. She returned to college and earned her professional dog training certifications. Prior to graduation, Barbara was offered the job of Dog Trainer at Petco. During her first 3 months of employment, she brought training sales up 40% advancing her store from last place in the division to first place.While enjoying her dog training position at Petco, the opportunities to provide clients with more comprehensive, holistic and advanced training programs were not available. Having the desire, knowledge and experience to provide her clients with training opportunities not offered, Barbara resigned and founded Raising K9.
Barbara is a graduate of and certified by Animal Behavior College, Paws 4 Healing, Pet Partners and The Delta Society.
She holds memberships with The Association of Pet Dog Trainers and The Association of Animal Behavior Professionals.
Formally educated in all forms of training methods, including Schutzhund,
Barbara uses a combination of methods, all of which are based on positive reinforcement.
She is committed to improving the lifelong relationship between dogs and their families.
The results are happy dog parents and healthy, happy, well-adjusted, well-behaved dogs.
• Barbara's dog Trooper, CGC, TD was a Certified Therapy Dog, passing his evaluations with a perfect score, obtaining the title of "Complex," the highest title a dog can receive. They were honored to be invited to and attend The Special Olympics. Barbara also pre-evaluates and trains dogs for Therapy Dog work.
• Barbara has been training her dog Tess in the sport of Dock Diving. They entered their first professional DockDogs events in March 2009 and Splash Dogs events in April 2009. At the age of 16 months, Tess received a medal as a DockDogs National Title Qualifier.
Barbara is committed to helping the causes of animal rescue and adoption. She is passionate about the elimination of puppy mills and prosecution of animal abuse. She is a member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers, The Association of Animal Behavior Professionals, The Humane Society of The United States, The ASPCA and PETA. She volunteers at various shelters and with rescue groups training dogs in order to increase the likelihood of their being adopted and continues training to ensure the dogs have a forever home.
